Barre classes have taken the world by storm over the last few years, and for good reason. With elements of classical ballet- based barre exercises, isometric movements, balance & posture training, core conditioning, and flexibility work, in one hour you will get a full-body workout that is fun, safe, and appropriate for all ages & abilities. You’ll leave feeling long, lean, and graceful, but with no dance experience required!
Originally developed by a German dancer as a way to combine a dance conditioning routine with rehabilitative therapy for a back injury, Lotte Berk opened the first barre studio in London in the 1950’s. The Lotte Berk method was brought to New York City in the 1970’s by Lydia Bach, and since then, countless variations of the program have been introduced in studios and gyms across the world.
At Aligned, we offer Balanced Body Barre™ classes. The Balanced Body Barre program is the perfect combination of traditional Lotte Berk exercises with contemporary alignment cues, modifications, and variations. Just like the Balanced Body Pilates program, the fusion of old and new makes for an exercise program that is safe, effective, and always evolving.
